India vs Australia 3ODI result: India lost by 66 runs but wins the series with 2-1

The third match of a one-day series between Australia and India played on September 27, 2023, did not fare well from the Indian perspective. Today’s match saw Australian captain Pat Cummins winning the toss and opting to bat first.

Australia’s opening batsman, David Warner, started aggressively, scoring 56 runs off 34 balls, while Mitchell Marsh contributed 96 runs off 82 balls. Despite his previous failures, Steven Smith played sensibly this time, scoring 74 runs off 61 balls. Marnus Labuschagne also chipped in with a brisk 72 off 58 balls.

With these notable contributions, Australia set a challenging target of 353 runs.

Indian Batting

Indian opener Rohit Sharma provided a solid start with a blazing innings of 81 runs off 57 balls. He was well-supported by Virat Kohli, who scored 56 off 61 balls, and Shreyas Iyer, who made 48 off 43 balls.

However, after the dismissals of these top-order batsmen, no one managed to stay at the crease for long, and India’s innings faltered gradually.

In the end, despite Ravindra Jadeja’s fighting 35 off 35 balls, India fell short, getting all out for 286 runs.

Bowling Performances

For Australia, Josh Hazlewood took 2 wickets for 42 runs, while Glenn Maxwell proved to be the most effective bowler with figures of 4 wickets for 40 runs.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the Indian bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 81 runs.

In conclusion, Australia won the third one-day match by a margin of 66 runs, thereby concluding the series. Despite this loss, India clinched the series with a 2-1 lead.
